Starting with 8 years in the music business and then spanning across 11 other industries, Brad Basar has held leadership positions in operations, technology, and marketing. He officially joined the cannabis industry in 2013 as a registered Michigan Medical Marijuana Caregiver and launched Michigan’s first Medical Marijuana Patient Portal.

In 2017, Brad founded Leaf Traders with only 3 mission keywords: Technology, Advocacy, Community. After 2 1/2 years of research, testing, and development, Leaf Traders launched their MVP, the Cannabis Survey Marketplace, on September 19, 2019. The Leaf Traders 2020 development roadmap is robust and aggressive with the launch of a series of Marketing, Research, and Engagement tools evolving the Leaf Traders Platform into the first cannabis/hemp dedicated ICP (Insights Community Platform).

How did you get started in cannabis?

I’ve been a longtime advocate of cannabis. In 2013 after moving back to my home state of Michigan, I became a registered Medical Marijuana Caregiver and launched Michigan’s first Medical Marijuana Patient Portal. However, the writing was on the wall that the caregiver model was not going to survive with the fast-changing legality in Michigan. In 2019 we shut down our caregiver services to concentrate full time on developing the Leaf Traders Platform. I remain a hobbyist home grower and have found working in the garden a great stress reliever from the daily tech start-up activities.

How did your company get started?

In 2017, we founded Leaf Traders with only 3 mission keywords: Technology, Advocacy, Community. After 2 1/2 years of research, testing, and development, we launched our MVP, the Cannabis Survey Marketplace, on September 19, 2019. CSM is the first self-service qualitative research platform paired with the first paid-survey site dedicated to the cannabis/hemp industry and community. The Leaf Traders 2020 development roadmap is robust and aggressive with the launch of a series of Marketing, Research, and Engagement tools evolving the Leaf Traders Platform into the first cannabis/hemp dedicated ICP (Insights Community Platform).

What areas of the cannabis industry do you and your company specialize in?

We are introducing the cannabis/hemp industry to the ICP (Insights Community Platform). Leaf Traders believes the ICP is how the majority of research, marketing, engagement, and loyalty will be conducted and built over the next decade. The ability to obtain instantaneous feedback and business insights from a brand’s own verified audience will change outdated, marketing, research, and loyalty models. We help brands utilize their customer base for far more than simply revenue and through personal engagement with customers the loyalty element becomes inherent with no additional spend. We bring to the table expertise in branding, research, and ICP administration.

What do you think is the next big thing in cannabis, and for your company?

Three items come to mind immediately. The first is what is starting to be labeled Cannabis 2.0. The newest set of products formulated and marketed by end-user experience. In the morning use an energizing formulation and, in the evenings, use a restful sleep formulation. I know some companies are really doing well at cracking this nut, however, I think true obtainment is difficult as each human’s endocannabinoid system is different. I look forward to seeing the development. The second is beverages. I believe beverage brands will likely become the #1 entry product for new consumers and most likely seeing CBD added to mainstream beverage companies in the very near future. Finally Branding Branding Branding. With thousands of start-ups, the industry is fast becoming a branding game and time availability to achieve Brand recognition is finite. Those that develop high-quality branding and positioning will be the ones left standing when full legalization arrives.

How does your company differ from the others in cannabis?

Leaf Traders through years of experience within the inner workings of the US Cannabis Industry and insights from a budding network currently at +14K. We have identified industry segments lacking tools and innovations that mainstream businesses take for granted. We are creating a platform that has not been seen in the cannabis/hemp industry. Creating a Branded ICP on the Leaf Traders platform can provide Online Marketing, business insights, lead generation, customer loyalty, and customer engagement all on a single platform at a quarter of the cost of outdated models. With brand building becoming one of the most important activities within the industry. ICPs will become a critical tool in the brand’s arsenal.
